Can the TV cable be used to lower shift points?

I have an 89 Iroc-Z with the L98 and the stock 700R4. When I run at the track the trans usually wants to shift at about 5600 RPMs at WOT with the TV cable adjusted using the GM method. I would like it to shift more around 5000 RPMs at WOT. Now can I just move the adjuster towards the front of the car more so it lowers the shift points to 5000? Will this do any damage to the trans? Will it affect the firmness of the shifts? If this is not correct do I need to change the govener in the trans, if so what part number for 5000 WOT shifts???

Shifting manually does NOT allow you to shift sooner!!! All it does is allow you to hold the gear longer!!!

Don't use the GM method for adjusting the TV cable. Look at other posts referring to the cable and follow transfixleo's method. Also readjusting it out of the proper place will damage the tranny because the pressure will be messed up.

You can adjust the cable to lower the shift points, it will also lower the downshift points while driving. Just be extra sure the trans doesn't slip after the adjustment. The correct thing to do would be to use a governor with heavier inner weights.

Do not use thr TV cable to adjust the WOT shift points, you will destroy the transmission. Do the changes to the governor!

Ditto to what Pro Built said. Messing with the TV Cable will lower max line pressure just when you need it least. The Governor controls your max throttle shift opints. Get the B&M Governor calibration kit.

Do NOT alter the tranny shift points by adjusting the TV cable. You will lower the line pressure and risk burning your clutches. The correct way is to buy a governor recalibration kit.
