By the way, you'll get more for your stock rear end if you sell it before you break it.

I prefer the 9", a good source is Currie. Plus if you do go 9", Strange makes an aluminum center section for it that takes GM 12-bolt gears. But if you're going to end up with a 572 in place of that 454, a few years from now, better to start with the S-60 from Strange.

Other dana 60s don't have the cast-in provision for the torque arm. If you want to do this with salvage-yard parts, definitely go with the Ford 9". Currie sells a torque arm bracket that you can weld to any 9"

Sure, but you may end up having to narrow it. The price isn't bad, if it includes the center section, and axles. Truck rearends are more likely to have the more agressive gear ratios, and the 31-spline axles, hopefully in a Traction-Lok.
Re: will it handle it?
I prefer the Mosr 12 bolt over the 9 inch for several reasons. First, it is lighter, second, it uses less power to turn it, and third, it is cheaper than building a 9 inch with new parts. If you want to build a 9 inch with junk yard parts then you might save some money, but it won't be as strong as the 12 bolt. There are no stock Ford differentials that are as strong as the 12 bolt Eaton Posi.

Re: will it handle it?
last year Car Craft magazine chassis-dyno-tested the old myth about which axle takes more power to run. twelve bolt versus nine inch versus dana 60. They were all within 5 horses at the rear tires.
