Which trans fluid after rebuild?

Just had my 86 700r4 rebuilt and had 3 different suggestions for the fluid.1 person suggested type F,other said Dextron 3,third said since it's a rebuild go w/ synthetic Dextron?Which one?

Stay away from type F. If you can spend the money, synthetic is always better.

350 with stealth intake, holley carb, 470 lift cam. 700r4 with .5 boost valve, vette servo, tci lock-up kit, B&M megashifter. Richmond 3.73 gears, powertrax locker, timkin bearings, synthetic lube. Custom 3 inch single into 2 2.5 pipes. 1 1/2 drop springs, 1 5/16 solid front sway bar, 1 inch rear bar, custom subframe connectors, custom LCA relocation brackets. Kobel ground FX, currant red metallic paint. Lots of other stuff...

Your top synthetics are Amsoil and Redline. Nonsynthetics, the best are Mobil Dexron 3, and AC delco. This information is based on results from teardowns on hundreds of transmissions (I have done myself) and from talking to hundreds of other transmission builders, and getting feedback from them on what works. Always use the OEM style filter. It is a Sealed Power filter, now known as Filtran. This is a Zero Leak filter, and the only one that protects the front pump from fine particles of metal.
