Can 10 bolt carriers fit in 9 bolt housing?
Okay, I don't know if this is a blessing or a curse... I have a salvaged 9 bolt rear end in my possession (2.77 posi disc, without axles or brakes).
I was planning to build a 10 bolt disc rear. I have a 10 bolt Zexel Torsen carrier (but I haven't purchased gears yet) and axles from a 10 bolt.
Can my 10 bolt parts fit and work in the 9 bolt housing and axle shafts?
And, is the 2.77 posi carrier worth anything?

No. Absolutely nothing internal will interchange between them, not one single piece.

Ok, so is this 9-bolt rear worth anything? I know I can get axles for it, if that helps...
I think I can also get a 9-bolt 3.45 posi disc rear end (no brakes) for cheap from a local salvage yard... is that worth anything?

Definitely! Any 9-bolt thats not a 2.77 is worth money! They're stronger than 10-bolts.

The 3.45 9-bolt is one of the most sought-after one as far as stock ones go. Even if you don't want to use it yourself, lots of people with 2.77s would love to have that one instead.

i got a 9 bolt with 3.08 gears out of an 86 ta for $150.00. they didnt know what it was tha suckers

305, TPI,compucam 2030 cam, air foil, 8.8 wires, accel super coil, dynomax headers, custom y-pipe, cut out, 80 series flowmaster, 2.73's and an open diff(3.42-3.73 on the way). and a stage 4 chip :0). hittin a sad 15.2 before the chip.
