1989 IrocZ gear swap

Car: 1989 Chevy Camaro IrocZ
Engine: 355 long block
Transmission: 700R4 Auto
Axle/Gears: 3:73 Non Posi
1989 IrocZ gear swap

I have a 1989 irocZ and it had the stock gears in the rear end i just bought a new axle with 373 gears in it and i had someone just swap the 373 gears into my stock axle. Now my speedometer is off it is reading 10mph higher than i am going Does anyone have any info that can help me on this????

Welcome to TGO. You need to swap the drive and/or driven gears in the trans. Providing info about your car would be helpful. If you have a T-5, check the sticky.

Im sorry i really dont know much about cars how do i find out what tranny is in my car??? and what other info would you need to help me further??

If you have a manual, you have a T-5, if auto, a 700R4. The drive and driven gears between the two aren't interchangeable.

Your OE set-up probably had 2.73's. You could ask the person who removed the gear set to verify. If the above is true, you'll need to swap both the drive and driven gears in the trans to the appropriate ones. A call to the following company will probably get you what you need:
