Would this be a 3 speed auto by any chance? Either way, it could be the tanny is slipping, in particular the Forward Clutches since it is common in those gears. What does the oil look like?

If this IS a 3 speed (THM200C) then TransGo makes a Shift Kit for this tranny but it is not a do it yourself kit. I had a car that I used to tow my boat with that had this tranny in it and I built it with the SK. You would have thought it was a nice shifting 350.

If this is an O/D ( I'm not sure they had the 700 in the Camaro in '82) you can also buy an SK for that too.

you asked "oil" color whatever reason you had to ask that, i answered it.. call it transmission fluid then.. oil and transmission fluid are different things. so i listed both

didnt mean to make fun of your question or whatever you thought.. i am really serious..

M$M's, your answer may have been a little confusing.

A/T fluid out of the can is a nice redish color and should stay that way if your tranny is in good condition.

Are you saying that you changed your transmission fluid and upon dropping the transmission pan that the old oil color resembled that of engine oil 10W-40? (using that as a reference color)?

Fair enough but it is called oil because it is oil. Now, are you saying that it is still red and has not been changed? Usually this is a pretty good sign if the oil has been in for a long time. If it is a recent change then it doesn't tell you allot unless it is black.

If it HOLDS once it is in EACH gear, regardless of quality of the shift and the oil is fairly clean then the Shift Kit I mentioned should help but another note on my previous experience with my old 200, I was going to do the SK install in the car but when I got the pan down there was a little too much 'stuff' in the pan for my likeing so I pulled it out. Turned out the Forward Pressure Plate was cracked! Don't be surprised if you are loking at an O/H since stock these trammies aren't that reliable. With the SK they are good.
