It goes so fast because it's made of rubber, and not meant to take any abuse. Get the polyurethane one from Energy Suspension. It costs $25 from Summit Racing, 800-230-3030, and you'll never ever have to replace it. (I went through 3 in two years before buying the ES one. It's been 4 years now, and the ES one is still solid.)

The part # is 3-1108G (for black), 3-1108B (for blue), 3-1108R (for red)... (put an ENS- in front of those #'s when you call Summit)

I dont' know about Prothane's trans mount; most people use the ES one. It's got a safety interlock on it in case the poly breaks. But yeah a bad motor mount would probably throw more stress on the trans; ES also makes poly v8 mounts...

Can a transmission mount go bad without actually separating? Maybe just loose its resiliency and allow more movement than it should.

TomP.

did you use the spacer so-called pre-load plate between the mount and tranny? I noticed the ES mount is about 1/2" if not more taller. I feel like it may be too tall because I get extra noise or reverberation at certain RPM's. Almost like a header touching agianst the body. Alot louder inside the cockpit too. Should I remove the first plate?

Instead of using the poly mount, I made my own. I fabricated a new one using the measurements off the rubber one, but made it out of steel....talk about ridged. Solid motor mounts and tranny mount. You can feel everything, its pretty cool. It worked real well too.

that is a good solid mount but its also a good way to break a transmission case, unless of course your car doesn't flex AT ALL. but i'm sure it still does

If the 60's cars can get away with it, maybe I can too. I have never heard of breaking a case. My dad has a 67 chevelle with a Muncie in it and it has a solid steel mount. No problems there.

His Chevelle also has a frame, and your car does not. It's risky. Broken cases happen all the time from that. People even break their blocks doing it.

I've been running the Moroso steel motor and trans mounts for years, even on F-bodys.
Never broke or cracked a trans or a mount on any of them.
Rock solid and never replace one again.
Don't believe the hype.
My 2 cents.

The Prothane transmission mount has a safety interlock just like the ES mount. I doubt your broke that mount. The Prothane mount does not have the shim plate, and it is actually the CORRECT height, unlike the ES mount. You don't get the vibration headaches with the Prothane mount. It's what we install here at the shop.

Check your torque arm mount, could very well be your culprit.

Can I get a part number from summit on the prothane? also, should i order these in a pair or can i just replace the one thats broken? I came up with ptp-7-1604-bl for the black mount.

HanMan,
I got mine from summit. Call'em up. I'm at work so I don't have the part number here. I can get at home if you really need it but Summit can give to you or it's in the catalogue. There's only one tranny mount and it fits most of GM.
Hope that helps.
Oscar.

I assume it fits most GM since it says that But id hate to order this part and not have it fit since its for a friend. Its actually his 3rd gen. My car is actually a 95 thunderbird V8. His has 180,000 miles and has just a couple problems ::sarcasm::
