T-5 Issues Help
i have a 83 z28 5.0 Nwc-t5 With manual clutch linkage. When trying to take off in first gear, the trans will pop out of gear. If i push hard to hold it in first it sometimes will not pop out but will make a real loud BANG sound. Also when the car is idling i can hear a sound coming from the trans until i push the clutch in the sound will go away. After more the 45minutes of driving the car will be hard to start. With it in first and the clutch pedal fully to the floor the car will nudge forward as the engine try's to turn over is the clutch not fully disengaging?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Re: T-5 Issues Help
I think you may have a couple problems. First, the clutch is clearly not disengaging all the way. That's causing the creeping. Adjust the linkage per factory spec as stated. You may have a problem with the pilot bearing too, as this is often a source of noise until the clutch pedal is pushed in. It's usually a high pitched whining sound. The trans jumping out of gear is most likely a transmission problem. This sounds like a problem with the first gear engagement teeth, the 1/2 slider and hub assembly, or the fork pads on the 1/2 fork.

When it jumps out of gear the shifter stays in the first gear position. Once it is in first and moving it will not pop out while driving just taking off. I will be pulling the trans today, is there anything i should look for?

Re: T-5 Issues Help
Fork pads more than likely. If the pad is gone the fork can't get the slider to fully engage the engagement teeth on the first gear, and when you put load on it as you try to drive the slider jumps back to neutral. The slop that exists due to the pad not being there allows the shifter to stay in the first gear position (it's held there by an internal detent and a ball/spring setup). You will need to pull the top cover and inspect the forks. There should be small black or white plastic pads on each side of the fork. If they are missing you've found your problem.
