I can't find a 3.42 anywhere...

I've been to several junkyards, I can't find 3.42 drum rear axle for my car anywhere...are there any cars that specifically used 3.42 drum? Most are disc, and I'm not doing a brake conversion...I might settle for 3.23's (anyone has an axle they don't need, mail me)...

Look for a rear from a V6 Camaro or Firebird. They are just a plain old drum brake 10 bolt. They all came with 3.42 and are just as strong as the V8 ones.

You and I must have the same kind of junkyards, Kevin... it took me forever to dig up my disc rear (from an '84 T/a)...

I just went to the local yard today for a T5. I noticed the 92 Camaro I was pulling it from had drum rear and posi. Don't know the ratio though. If you just end up needing a posi diff, I have one in my shed that I probably will never use. Make a fair offer and pay shipping. Keep in mind, it's a heavy bugger.

I've never heard of a V6 with posi. Only the V8's, and usually only the TPI's.

Since you have a 92, why not get the SLP posi and a used set of 3.42 gears from a 4th genner and have them put into your rear end?

What about price? How much would that cost? I know the SLP posi unit is only 100, but what about the gears and installation? The reason I was going for a whole axle is to avoid the tedious work of doing this gear work myself...
