Replaced 700R4, now more problems than ever.
I just replaced my 700R4. This was the first time I had replaced a transmission. It took me about 8 hours to do, but I finally got it.
When I took the car out first, it was acting strange. The 1-2 shifts were off, and the 2-3 shifts would rev into the 6K rpm range, and never shift at all. I adjusted the TV cable, using Transfixleo's methood. It worked well, but I am having the EXACT same problems. Also, when I stop at a stop sign, my car stalls and dies. Anyone know what may be up?

I meant that I was having the exact same problem before and after I messed with the TV cable. I know that the TV cable is fine though, because when I do adjust it off where it is supposed to be, the transmission does what I think it is supposed to do. (Not shift at all when open) stuff like that.
The hood was from usbody.com, and costed me around $800 or so.

You have late shifts whether or not you adjust the TV cable right? OK then the problem is itnternal, likely the Throttle Valve that the cable is actually controlling. This is an age old problem with 700's and the primary cause of failure. I don't know where you got the tranny from, if it was used or rebuilt but if yo don't fix that problem either way it always comes back to haunt you. Another good points was made about the converter. If it wasn't changed it is a great collector of debris (or maker) that can get in and also stick that valve. Lastly, the cooler hangs onto allot of this stuff too waiting for the hot high detergent ATF to flush it out. It is no wonder that the best cooling line flusher on the market uses heated ATF as it's cleaning solvent!

Thanks Transfixleo.. I will look into it.
Although, there is a deffinite difference in the shifts when I adjust the TV cable to different places. So that makes me believe that it is working fine.
The transmission was bought from an LKQ auto parts salvage. They said it was "Computer Tested" Whatever that meant, and it came with a 6 month warranty. I am not too worried if it doesn't work, I could just replace it, but I really don't feel like spending another 8 hours replacing it. The Transmission was out of a 92 Firebird. From what I seen, it looked like it was orignal, and the Torque Converter came with it. I did not replace it with my used TC because I was pretty sure it could have been damaged in some way.

C'mon Dan, don't bash his car. If we'd all think alike and like the same things this world would be boring. The important thing is that is what he likes and it's his car. He can do as he pleases. I kinda like it myself. It's different. Well, with that out the way, I'd suggest asking the people you bought it from to loan you a different converter so you can see if that's the problem. If that's not it then you might want to put that warranty to good use.

Yeah, thats what I am thinking. I really don't feel like pulling that damn thing back out though. Damn it was a PITA. Thanks for the help guys.
Don't feel bad if you have to replace it. I had to do it 3 times with junkyard trannys. Not fun to say the least. Good luck. Cool hood by the way. I like it.
