5 speed conversion complete !

Hey everyone. I just finished my 5 speed conversion and after driving it for a day I think I already messed up the clutch. (never drove a stick before in my life.. lol). I heard it chatter for a brief second when engaging in 1st gear tonite. Does that mean it's "glazed" ? Should I replace it yet ?
It hooks pretty damn good though and doesnt slip at all.

Also... hehe... any tips for a rookie stick driver ? I'm using a Zoom stock type clutch I bought from Checker auto. Thanx

I would let it go for awhile. I think it takes around 30- 40 starts from a stop to break a clutch in. Did you have the flywheel resurfaced? It may get better as you keep driving and practicing. Best way to learn to drive a stick is to drive! Fun though, huh?

Well this is my 2nd day driving and I havent heard the chatter at all. I think your theory works well, clemsparks ! I've stalled it a couple of times off the line, so now I just floor it to make sure it doesnt! LOL Really though, now I actually got used to the clutch and the fact that it engages at about half way pedal travel. Plus I was letting it out waay too fast making the car jerk when shifting. So far so good though

p.s. The car pulls A LOT harder! It feels like I dropped a second in the 1/4 (I probably did!)

I think it's low on fluid. It was drained almost completely when taken out of the 89 IROC it came out of and then I poured 3 quarts of ATF in it.

Driving around at low speeds it's a little tough sometimes to get in gear smoothly. When I'm on a steep downhill it's SUPER easy to put it in any gear. Does that mean it needs more ??

Yeah, a little under 3 quarts, I believe.
If you beat on that T5 much it's gonna go away.I destroyed one with a stock TBI 305.
It's not gonna take too much abuse!

I think the syncros are already starting to go in 2nd and 4th because I miss 2nd way too much lately. :/

Oh well, I wont be too sad to swap my pro built automatic back in!

I'd buy your T5 from you. It'd have to be cheap though as it sounds like it's ready for a refresh .

Actually it WAS the driver. LOL

I let a more experience 5 speed IROC driver drive it and he said there's nothing wrong with it and it shifts fine.

I was the angle at what I was pulling the stick at. Too much towards MY side. LOL

It's all good now though.
