Tranny Mount or Gears?

I get a wierd thump sound when I accelerate, even light accelerationwhen the car is already rolling at 50+ mph. I've had a broken trnnay mount before, and it doesn't sound like that at all, just similar symptoms, but mine before was in a V6 Firebird.

Could is possibly be the rear gears going bad? It almost feels like play in the driveshaft. When I first press down the pedal, for a split second, nothing, then a *thud* and it surges forward.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

Still sounds like a tranny mount. If your gears were that bad off to do that, you would have hella noise from the rear end.
