posi or locker?
I'm making long term plans for my RS and am a little confused about my differential options. I know the difference between a posi and a full locking rear, but what is the advantage of one over the other? I assume that a posi would be more streetable, but I've been told that posi units often fail at the track. I was thinking about getting a PowerTrax locker, but I can probably get a used posi for much less than $400. What would be my best bet? Thanks!

by locker i believe you mean spool, not for the street at all. if you run on the street use a posi rear and if you race use a spool.

A locker is kind-of between a spool and posi(limited slip). If you get the no-slip powertrax, it is so smooth and quiet that you can't tell it's a locker. The cheaper powertrax locker clicks when you turn corners(closer to 300 dollars). Both are fairly easy to install--the only thing you remove is the spider gears. I've had mine for close to 5 years without any trouble.

Yes, I was referring to the PowerTrax locker, not a spool. I've heard nothing but good things about it so far.

Wow, back from the dead--2 years....A locker unlocks when turning--acting like it's an open diff. Dangerous? I drive mine all the time and I "sense no danger".

I'm gonna get one of those powertrax lockers next week (gotta pull the diff cover to see what I got first) Seems the easiest way to lay down 2 black marks

Wow, I had forgotten that I posted this...in 2001!
I still plan on going with the Powertrax but I don't wanna use my 2.72 rear so I gotta get new gears too hopefully soon!

It's weird through the corners at first but you get used to it... If you are light on the throttle, it stays unlocked through the corner but as soon as you give it a little, the front of the car lurches to the outside of the corner for a split second. Minor correction of the steering and you're fine. Hehehe how long a marks.... well, I did a small one today about 25 foot before having to let off for a speed bump. I think it's just more fun getting sideways taking a corner anyway
what do you think your car is pushign for hp/tq...
trying to figure out if i could even chirp them with mine if i had a 1990 305 tbi all stock other than k & n drop in and a 3" flowmaster cat back... along with 2.73 gears..
lol what do you think.....

I'm just guessing maybe 240 hp 285 ft tq. Really want to get on a chassis dyno to find out for sure. Last night I did my first dounuts after putting in the locker and probably spun'em for over 100 feet when I straightened out the car hehehe. I had to lift off a bit cause they wouldn't stop spinning
