clutch pedal problem
i searched a bit before asking this but cant seem to find what im looking for. i replaced my clutch master cylinder and i replaced my busted clutch pedals ( just bought the car ) and when i go to put the cylinder on the pedals it basically pops off. i had the bushing on there but it dosnt hold at all. if u touch it it comes off... then i tried taking the bushing off and put on a c-clip i had that fit on to the pedal's, and it works but eventually it just comes right off... what do i do??? im really lost. i went to the junk yard to see how its supposed to look. and all they have is the bushing and nothing else?!?!?! but for what ever reason mine pops off as i drive it. also i checked to see if maybe something was lose or bent but its not everything is rock tight and all new parts so please SOMEONE help me out. if i can fix this permently i can drive the car. btw its an 86 305 carb'd trans am obviously a 5 speed car please some one help me

Re: clutch pedal problem
C-clip? Do you mean e-clip?
If it's an e-clip that's popping off, try a smaller or larger one.
Or just find the OE part in a 'yard or from a dealer.

Re: clutch pedal problem
I guess you can call it an e-clip. I also called it a c-clip.That's the same problem I had. POS plastic took a dump. But my clip works fine. Try to see if the groove for the clip is clean, try a different clip. Look at the pedal mount. Is it square to the master cylinder arm or does it angle away? Like if you push in the clutch is the arm mount in a bad angle to where the arm easily slips off? You might have to bend it so that pushes evenly with each other instead of trying to run off.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Re: clutch pedal problem
okay i actually think i got it. went to a yard today and they had a 4th gen with the clutch pedals still there and i took off what looked to be a much smarter design and the bushing in it was like rubber so im gonna get a rubber bushing not a stupid plastic one. ill find out tomorrow or the next day if it works but it seems like it will. and btw yeah its straight as an arrow
Re: clutch pedal problem
Yeah, the 4th gen design is far better since it uses a metal linkage clip on the end. If you can't get that to work though, search the threads here. A while back somebody posted a link to where you can buy a new plastic bushing/clip piece. I think Dorman was the company that sells new ones. I do know that the pin on the 4th gen pedal is slightly smaller in diameter. I tried to hook a 4th gen master cylinder rod to my 3rd gen pedal pin, and the 3rd gen pedal pin was too big to go through the eyelet on the 4th gen m/c. I ended up grinding and knocking out the original 3rd gen pedal pin and putting a brake master cylinder pin in its place with a tack weld to hold it there. The brake pushrod pin was the perfect size to go through the 4th gen m/c eyelet.

Re: clutch pedal problem
If using a standard hardware store e-clip, does anyone know what size works best? I am having the same issues and my car is in the parking lot with the pedal slipped off...
