Know when the slave is bad?
I've bled the slave numerous times and it's still hard to get into gear sometimes. I put it in gear before I start the car now because it will grind everytime. Could my slave be bad? I don't know how to tell. It doesn't leak any fluid. To buy a new one is cheap enough but figured I'd throw a post up and see if theres anything I can check. Thanks!

You might have the infamous problem of the throwout bearing being installed on the release fork incorrectly. It it is, that will cause it to not have enough travel to disengage the clutch disc completely. The guy on the boards here that just got his T5 swap finished ran into the same problem. If it's installed incorrectly, the spring steel tabs will be above the lips of the throwout bearing. When installed correctly, the spring steel tabs should rest inside, or just underneath the outer lips of the bearing (i.e. inside the race or groove). If you're sure this part is assembled correctly, you might have to resort to fabricating a longer pushrod for the slave cylinder to get the proper amount of fork travel.

You should have a peep hole on pass side of tranny its just a plug 1/2 inch I think. You can pull it and see if the slave is pushing the clutch fork also make sure you have correct fluid (atf) I put 85wt in mine and did not know it called for atf. I had the same problems.
