I am worried my rear end may snap because of the added power....
In a bit, I will be adding a fully ported superram and a 9psi ati p600 to my IROC. It already Gtech's at 12.9 consistently (provided I launch well). Due to the mods coming in the near future, I will have about 500 hp, and I am afraid that my rear end will break. What are my options? If I just use Drag radials will I be fine? What if I get things like sfc's lca's relocation bracket and torque arm? Will that increase the load and stress on the rear end or help take it off or what? It is a 10 bolt.
hard launches are what kills axles, if you start to run the drag radials your going to be really pushing it, if you get things like a eaton posi, moser axles and motov gears then it will handle it pretty well or go aftermarket.
hmmm...so I can actually mod the rear end i have now? What exactly do I need? I have a posi already and I just put in Richmond 3.73 gears. I have been running drag radials all along, and they can't hook up work a flip w/the 330 or so hp I have now!
yeah check out www.moserengineering.com they have all kinds of stuff you will need for the axle, the gears are good, is that a stock posi? also some of moser's axles and c-clip eliminators will be a good add on the make that axle last for at least a little while. stepping up to a 12 bolt ot 9" would be the absolutle best, but your current axle built will be fine with your setup

Your traction problem needs LCA lowering brackets. You won't believe the difference they'll make, they are by far the best bang for the buck suspension mod for off the line traction. Added traction always increases the stresses on the driveline; if your tires spin, then there's not much load on it; but if they hook, all the engine's power actually gets applied to it.
I'd recommend Superior axles. They make the correct axle for a 28-spline 10-bolt, which is probably what you have (check to make sure before you order anything! or, order a 28-spline carrier, then you can be sure you have the good one). Their axles are hardened after they are splined, which none of the custom axles are.

thanks for your help! How much can this run me to increase greatly the possibility of my rear end not snapping on me? Also, will my tranny be fine? I rebuilt it 5 months ago and had them build it up good...unfortunately, I said it would only see like 400 hp.
Hey mang,
Look into getting a bearing girdle too, there's a "beefing up your 10bolt" tech article as well, one thing to do is get someone to weld a bead around the axle tube to housing.
Those two things alone will help tremendiously considering its only spot welded from the factory and there's no bearing support.

The best choice is a 9 inch. But if you can't afford (or don't need that much), a 9 bolt is a good option and completely freshened is less than 1/2 a 9 inch or 12 bolt. The 9 bolt is definately stronger than the 10 bolt. How much stronger? I have been running mine for 3+ years now behind my 500hp/520lbft big block (1.72-1.75 60 ft with slicks) with out a single problem and it is entirely stock.
Parts use to be hard to find (or impossible), but that has changed now. I offer brand new series 3 posi carriers, gear sets up to 4.10 ratio and other stuff for 9 bolts. All the info is on my page at www.koolmeister.com I will be adding stuff regulary to the 9 bolt page, so check back often or email me with your needs.
