6L80e Swap?? maybe 6L60e?

I have a 91 Camaro. It has the 700r4 Transmission in it bolted and running on the LT1 engine I put in.

I have seen info about the 6L80e and I think the idea is cool, but not sure if it works. I've tried to find out but keep finding conflicting info. Will either the 6L80e or the 6L60e transmission bolt up to an LT1?? Would it fit in the 3rd gen? I know it runs a seperate computer to run the trans, would it be something as simple (not nessesarely simple) as telling the LT1 computer not to worry about shifting, and just let the trans computer do the work?

Any Info would be appreciated. Alternitavely can you put a taller 4th gear in the 700r4 or 4L60e?

you can buy a new 4th gear planetary gear but your looking at 600+ for a new planetary. If you want to lower your rpms in 4th gear buy larger diameter tires, change rear end gear.

6l80e final gear ratio is .67

They are A LOT heavier than the 700r4/4l60e trannies and are good for 700hp if built right and some have seen higher numbers. I have a feeling that the 6lX0E tranny swap would be rediculous expensive and would also require the computer i think. I doubt the 700r4/4l60e tailshaft will swap over either.

From what Imodify know the tranny is huge and the pan hangs down further than the oil pan of the engine. Would not fit in a 79 malibu without modifying the tranny tunnel. hope this helps. The computer is inside the tranny, you could use an m6 computer for the lt1. it would be cool but its gonna be a challenge.

I don't know if it would even bolt up to your motor. Think about it an LT1 uses regular gen 1 sbc geometry thats why you can swap an LT1 T56 to any sbc. But that new 6L80 is for gen 3, 4 and 5 motors. Different bolt pattern. Not sure if I'm right or not but that would be a major obstacle

I've always wondered if something like this could be swapped:

Dude a built, supercharged LS with the 6-spd auto would be wicked!

But yeah that 6L80E is freakin HUGE. Major tranny tunnel work but totally doable and really not that hard. Mocking up a tranny mount and the driveshaft would be harder.

Think it'd be an awsome swap? Padel shifter behind your wheel. Would be fun. But as for your crankshaft flange... sticks out to much. Wont fit.

Just to let you know GM offers a transmission plate for a 4L65E to bolt up to a GenI/II engine I to am talking to a fell people in putting a 6L60E behind my LT1 gas miliage an extra gears help, ok I'll need a computer along with upgrading to a OBDII computer as well for my LT1, yet I'll be replacing my opti to coil per plug as in the LS also, so making the LT1 in to a CPS/or trigger i.e Golen Engines detail the set up along with LTCC/EFI connection/ LS1 PCM.

I would LOVE to know how this is done if you get it to work! That's what I was thinking. I would need a computer, but that trans runs its own computer separate from the engine computer, so I would think that would make it easier... but then, that's just me, and I've never done this type of work before....
