LT1 torque spec differences

I remember seeing something about there being torque spec differences between LT1 T56's, and LS1 T56's. Is this true? I searched, but couldn't find.

Re: LT1 torque spec differences

On the bolts? Or the warranty ratings?

The '93 M29 T56 were factory rated at 360lb-ft
The '93 M28 T56 were factory rated at 400lb-ft
The '94-'02 MM6 T56 were factory rated at 450lb-ft

The later model years got improvements in parts, but they were mostly reliability/longevity related. Once the common wear/failure parts are replaced in any MM6 unit, the ratings can all go to 700lb-ft. (limit of the mainshaft and gears)

All the bolt TQ specs are the same between the LT1 and LS1 T56s. They are listed in the back of the Tremec Service Manual.

Yes.. I consider the clutch/FW more engine specific than trans. The stock LS1 is 52#, the stock LT1 is 22#. Aftermarket clutches will have their own specs, so check carefully.

Mike, I thought the M29 (2.97 1st) was rated at 400lb-ft and the M28 (3.36 1st gear) was rated @ 360lb-ft?

Re: LT1 torque spec differences

I probably have the 28,29 mixed up.. But yes, the higher (numerical) 1st gear unit has the lower TQ rating. (More, thus smaller teeth)
