700r4 Lockup switch

Ok so I completely removed the ECM from my 85 Camaro and threw it out in the cold. So now my TC doesn't lockup like it used to, since the ECM isn't running the show. So...how can I wire a toggle switch so that I can manually lock up the trans? I have searched for the past couple days and have found no straight answers. I am no master electrician either so please keep the words fairly simple. Thanks

Re: 700r4 Lockup switch

Yes it does, but I didn't want to spend much on this tranny. At least not if i don't have to. I have it behind a 383 and its remaining life is getting shorter and shorter . I am going to be putting in a 5 or 6 speed fairly soon so I just need to rig something up that will work until then. Ya know what I mean? From my searches it seems like there is a simple way to do it with the existing brake switch and the wires connected to the trans, but I wasn't able to find the whole story on which wires go where...thanks for the reply though. Didn't expect one so fast

Re: 700r4 Lockup switch

Mine was just rebuilt but its already taking a dump. Its just so hard to stay out of the throttle. I put in a whole new dash I got from one of the junkyards around here so I figured I might as well tear out all the old wiring. It looked like crap anyway. All my gauges work except for the oil pressure. I gotta figure out why. But thats after I get this tranny business done.

Re: 700r4 Lockup switch

Thats another thing-I got a little carried away so now my heater doesn't work. But I blew a fuse so that might be it. I didn't mess with the harness on the drivers side. I didn't know what I needed and what I didn't need.

Re: 700r4 Lockup switch

the drivers side is pretty much the fuse box wiring. half of them go to the starter, and the rest is wiper motors and other things like that. a few from the right can be cut out, but you have to search through them.

Re: 700r4 Lockup switch

Oh ok. Its probably better I left it alone then. I had to shorten a lot of the wires that I was keeping. GM wasn't very efficient with their use of wires.

Re: 700r4 Lockup switch

I actually don't have many wires. Just the ones for the headlights, starter, dizzy, and alternator. Plus the battery cables. I also took out the terminals that were bolted to the firewall on the drivers side. Idk what they were for but it sure looks a lot cleaner now.

Re: 700r4 Lockup switch

running computerless you wont need much. make sure all safety works (headlights, blinkers, other lights, wipers, and fuel pump) you should be all set. besides battery, grounds, and alt

Re: 700r4 Lockup switch

I tested all the lights as I was ripping stuff out so they are still good. Fuel pump is mechanical so thats fine. Forgot to check the alternator. But it did fine on the test drive. Only issue was the trans.
