ext. bal. 383, 2piece RMS, t56 flywheel?

So i'm searching for the right flywheel for my setup. An old block, 2 piece rear main seal that is externally balanced. currently have a ext. bal. flexplate with a little counter weight on it you can see for my TH350. I'm going to a T56 soon. And what i'm seeing is that the flywheel needed is very specific. and steep on price. Here's what i found. These are it right? Are there any others? this is all i could find.

McLeod 460370-3C
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MCL-460370-3C/

Centerforce 700173
http://www.jegs.com/i/Centerforce/183/700173/10002/-1

I thought I had read somewhere that there is a fidanza counterpart but i cant find it. not for my setup.
edit: is this it? fidanza 198661 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FIZ-198661/

oh and one other thing...is the new flywheel supposed to weigh the same as my current flexplate, in order for my engine to remain properly balance? thats not possible right? the flywheel will weigh a lotmore than flexplate wont it? do i need to change my damper/balancer for a heavier one?

Centerforce 700107 is the correct flywheel, not the one you listed.

This post has all the parts you need for the swap: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tran...ml#post4433386

But that one says its for internally balanced engines. Mine is external.

ok thanks. yeah that helps. it confirmed what i was suspecting, that i did infact need an externally balanced flywheel. I just cant use the stock LT1 flywheels bc I have a two piece RMS.

but i just came up with another question, is there something on these flywheels that has to be specific to the T56? why cant any ext. bal. flywheel designed for a 2piece RMS work? is there something to do with the bolt hole locations for the T56 clutch set? disc size (11in)? tooth count (153 or 168)?

The 2 centerforce flywheels are the same .One just has a few holes drilled in it . I have centerforce 700173 flywheels drilled for bigblock 454 . Talk to a local machine shop and see if the can balanced my wheel to you spec . I believe it is 23 ounce imbalance . It is the same waight that is in your balancer (look behind it ) My centerforce wheel will need a few half inch plugs installed 200$ plus shiping .Get you pics tomorrow thanks

if you look at a t56 flywheel its ALOT thicker then a reg flywheel and i'm sure it's bolt pattern is different for a t56 then a reg clutch too try this number centerforce 700173 http://www.summitracing.com/search/?...d=700173&dds=1

I'm really not sure what you are talking about. You have multiple 700173's, designed for BBC's? And I should see if the balance can be changed from the BBC weight to the SBC weight I need? And what are 1/2" plugs that you say it needs? Thanks.

Can't you just use the 400 ext balance flywheel and a use a 26 spline clutch?

Re: ext. bal. 383, 2piece RMS, t56 flywheel?

When centerforce makes this kind of flywheels they all start out a a 700107 or neutral balance . Since the do not make one for a 454 I simply bought a neutral balanced one (700107). Then I brought it to the machine shop and had them spin it on a 454 crank . Just like you balance a car tire instead of adding weight they just drill out the back of the flywheel in a few spots .1/2 inch holes about a half inch deep . I will try to get you a photo up tomorrow.

It would be nice but no . The t56 uses a pull type clutch totally different from the t-5 . The spline on the imputshaft has nothing to do whith the flywheel .
