700r4 Rebuild problems
700r4 Rebuild problems
Hey everyone Im a new poster on here.
I have a 1987 Iroc 305 TPI that had a fried transmission when I got it. We had a local guy rebuild it and after we put it in It doesnt shift right at all.
He did a rebuild and sold us a new torque converter. Its definitley a new convertor.
When you take off in the car It has good power (doesnt feel like its slipping) but It wont shift unless you completely let off the gas. You can be at 1/4 to full throttle and it will not shift it will hold it in each gear till 5,000 rpm or longer.
It also seems like when you drive it easy it shifts to overdrive way to soon then once you accelerate it slams down into gear.
I appreciate any help you guys have. Ive adjusted the TV cable 20 times without it fixing the problem. Ive used guides on here and from other websites to adjust the cable.

Re: 700r4 Rebuild problems
I just did the bottom end on mine - I know these tranny's shift by tv cable pressure and govenor centrifical force. I also know you have to put a pressure guage on it to know what the idle pressure is to start. When you open the throttle TV pressure should increase then as you go faster (speed wise) govenor pressure overcomes TV pressure and it shifts to the next gear. If it's shifting as you say then either TV pressure is not correct (too high) or your govenor wieghts or something has happened either mechanical or in the govenor pressure system (sticking valve maybe).
There are others here who have way more knowledge and hopefully they can jump in for you and help as well.
