Holy Crap Thats alotta noise!

Just got some motive 370's put in my 9 bolt BW. The guy who did it does everyones big moneyclassic cars in town. Everyone swears by him so I trust him. He called and siad the rear was making some noise and was concerned about it. I figured, hey, they are new they are going to be a little noisy at first until broken in. He told me the spec's on the install and said that the lash and depth were dead on. Well, on the drive home it made a loud whine, especially between about 20 and 40 mph. I didn't go over 45 though. Will this subside or is their a problem. I can live with the noise but I dont want to destroy my rear!

They are noisy. You might need a louder radio or exhaust. Open headders might help.

Re: Holy Crap Thats alotta noise!

LOL, I have a cut out and they were almost louder than that! Hey, if thats how they are supposed to sound, fine. I can live with it, I only really race it. I just dont want to break any teeth or get starnded in the middle of the quarter mile. The tech guy from Summitracing said the 3.70's should be a quiet gear. I am at a loss whether or not to try and break them in. Any input is welcome.

You need to put that pedal to the metal and do couple donut around the parking lot, that how I break in my gear lol. remember to change the gear oil too after few hundred miles. Redline would be my choice.

LOL, well, there isn't a grinding or crunching noise that I would think with the teeth misaligned. It is just a loud sound like "whirrrr" I never got on it or went very fast at all. I am just scared to **** something up!

In mustang world, motive gear is noise gear, nothing bad just the noise, it will not affect the performing, run with confident, Some one on mustang running red line 75w140 gear oil and it quiet down a bit.

Re: Holy Crap Thats alotta noise!

i second that notion, heavier oil will dampen the noise some, but dont overdo it.
from what ive heard, the noise should go down after time and gear oil changes.
make sure you do some hard acceleration and engine braking after a while to help break the gears in.

Summit tech doesn't know much about gears as far as i know. If you wnat information about gears then you need to deal with someone who deals in gears only. Shops like DTS, Randy's Ring & Pinion and places like that install the gears that they sell and they know what is what. Summit doesn't install crap and they don't know crap.

Motive gears suck and some are made in korea. $20 you got the crappy korean ones and not the ones made in italy. Buy some Richmonds next time.

Re: Holy Crap Thats alotta noise!

The noise has quited down some, but not alot. They sure do feel good though. Quite a noticable difference for the better. Will post again after some time to see f the noise goes away.

Re: Holy Crap Thats alotta noise!

bummer, my motive gears are 97% quiet. If you weren't used to my car you wouldn't even notice.

...my GM gears however made me want to end my life everytime I drove it.

Just my .02$
