700R4 - Transplanting Internals

Is it possible to transplant the internal components of a 700R4 that came off a 2.8L V6 into the case of another 700R4 that was behind a 5.0L V8?

The V8 transmission was apparently underwater (along with the '82 Camaro) but I have 2 good V6 transmissions.

Cheers!

First what years are we talking about? Is this the 2.8L, the small case bolt pattern? If it is then the input drum will be different.

Yes. My good transmissions are all 2.8L V6 units. Apart from the input drum (hopefully mine is okay), are the other components interchangeable?

I believe the V8 transmission (case) is an '82. One of the V6 transmissions is probably an '84. They are at the farm about 50 miles north and I'm too busy flying to visit them. I will post again once I have definite information on these units.

One of the V6 transmissions is in my laundry area. It came off an S-10. I'll try to determine it's vintage when it gets light outside.

Thank you very much for your interest in my problem.

Cheers!

The internals from 1982 - 1986 are pretty much the same. You will have to check out the condition closely, when it is disassembled.

Thanks for that info. Assuming the V8 transmission's input drum is toast, can a new or reconditioned one be bought easily? Are there any upgrades that "should" be done while the transmission is apart?
