700r4 shifting way late

my camaro with a 355, small crane, 9.5:1 etc etc. has a 700 behind it that i dont know the history of. it shifts hard into 2nd but kind of floats into 3rd and od. the real problem is that at the strip it just wants to keep revving to 5500 before shifting in each gear. it has 3.73 rears. trying to shift manually makes no difference i bump it to the next gear but it wont shift until it wants to. and ideas? vette servo?

mine had the same problem last year. ended up being the 3-4 clutch packs starting to wear out. had the trans rebuilt and problem fixed.

Lucas Tranny Fix might solve it. It did for me with the same issue. Otherwise, it may be time for a rebuild.

well the detent is adjusted correct. it is a pint low on the stick, i highly doubt it would affect anything. it shifts good but wants to rev out to 3500 b4 shifting into 3rd and 5500 under full throttle. they was nothing abnormal last time i changed the tranny fluid 10k miles ago

It could be your TV spring. go here www.tvmadeez.com and you might find some helpful info.
Good luck
Humm Looks like the page timed out when I tried to load it. 2nd time in as many days that I have had that problem with web pages, strange.

Re: 700r4 shifting way late

This 700R4 sounds like it has the 5,500 rpm governor in it. This governor "will not" allow you to shift at a "earlier" rpm at WOT. DO NOT adjust the TV cable to make it shift earlier, as this will destroy the transmission. You can change to a V8 governor, and that will allow you to shift earlier.
