Rebuild next week (700R4)

Am removing the tranny, and taking it to have it rebuilt....Anything special, I should have done to it while it is out, and being worked on...I have a Corvette servo in it, and a B and M shiftkit...The converter is making noise with 17400 miles on the clock, so am going back with a tork master 2400...Any suggestions??? Thanks, Tom

Re: Rebuild next week (700R4)

I have a good tranny guy, he has been running, and building Camaros for years...I think his current 3rd gen runs 8's in the 1/4...Anyway, I was curious about what you guys consider "have to have parts"...Thanks, Tom

Just because he runs 8's, doesn't mean he knows how to build a 700R4 right. See how successful his 700R4's are doing.

You of course are right, but he has had his tranny shop for about 35 years...He built my last one in the 90's, and it outlasted the motor..lol..And thanks for the replys guys......Will check into the guru.....Tom

I second calling Dana at Pro-Built Automatics! He knows his 700r4s! He's doing my kit now. He'll ask you tones of questions in order to customize the kit just for you.

Re: Rebuild next week (700R4)

I'm also having my 700r4 rebuilt soon and while I would love to go with a kit from Dana at pro-built my main reason for not doing so is because I couldn't risk spending the money and not having any warranty especially being only 21 years old and limited money. No shop it seems will issue a warranty unless you use their parts supplier so having them rebuild my transmission with Dana's kit is most likely out of the question. I think if you ask other car owners and search around you can find someone or a reliable transmission shop in your city. The place i'm going I talked to about what I wanted and what my future plans were with the car and they were very helpful and willing to answer any questions. They assured me they only use the highest quality of parts for a rebuild including things like corvette servo, etc. So we'll see how it goes. If I was mechanically inclined then this would probably be a different situation but I still have lots to learn :P

I would defer to your trans builder only for parts selection. He probably has done hundreds of them, and can make the best choices for you.

Re: Rebuild next week (700R4)

He has..His name is Donnie Dick, Galveston County...I am just worried that I bought too much converter for my motor , it is ab&m 2400 stall.. It does have lockup, but with a 3.23 I think it may be more than I need..I hope not cuz this my daily driver..I guess as long as it locks up in Od it will ok for the time being..17400+ on the clock, and the tranny is still good, but with a stall I was worried....Do you guys think 2400 stall (flash is to much with 3.23 gears is too much?????Doing the tranny, fuel pump upgrade, UNI panhard, and lower control arks, along with another set of headers at the same time....Hope it gets me 3 tenths in the 1/4 mile...Suggestions?? Thanks, Tom

BTW got rear end girdle, and a new seals, rear main, pinion.l..Open to any suggestions............................................

The 2,400 rpm stall is fine. It being a B&M is not. If your builder is recommending a B&M TC.... find another builder.

My builder did not recommend it, he actually said a vette converter would work the best for my mild build..To late already have it now...B&M shiftkit, and Shifter too...This has become a major job now....
