swap th350 to a th700r4

Hello,

First of all sorry fore the bad writing, English is not my mother languish

My problem,

I have a 82 firebird, and get a donor car fore the engine it’s a 87 firebird.

I swab the engine and trans.

The trans was a TH350 and the trans I put in, is a th700r4.

Now the Speedo of the 350 is whit a cable and the 700 is electrical.

What is the best way to get the speedo meter working again.???

What option’s do I have…. Build the inside wiring and dash from the 87 in to the 82 firebird?

Thanks.

just use a cable type speedo drive in place of the electric
sender on the '87 tranny-camaro is cable drive up
through '89,i think '86 firebird is still cable drive too.

you mean put the cable from the 82 firebird in the tranny of the 87 firebird?
but here is no connection in the tail of the tranny fore cable drive speedo!

No just remove the electical sensor in the tail from the 87, then install a mechanical sender for your cable. usually a junk yard find for low cost.

You would still have to pull the ring off the output shaft and put the plastic gear on.

The only other way I know of is a box like this one. It takes the signal in and then spins the cable for your speedometer. Not cheap though.

Find a tail of a th700 whit a cable drive connection, this is Europe… we only have vw and other European cars.. On the junk yard…To bad. If I find one it still will be expansive it think.

And that box is a bit expansive..300 dollar when I have it fly over to Holland it will be 350/400 euro..

Is my option to switch the wiring from the 87 to the 82 not a option? I know it’s a lot of work, but I have the donor car!

I forgot to mention that shaft ring. Are you keeping the engine carburated our using the 87's EFI? if you use the EFI with the 87 computer and guage assembly It will all work, If carbed then you will need that box.

The engine I dropt out of the 82 was a injection but built to carb.
The engine I put in from the 87 is a carbed. This was original.
I toke the engine and the tranny so I can use the wiring also? That was my thought !
Just build the whole wiring and dash unit over to the 82…
