identify a t5??

i need a t5 for my v8 camaro, i believe that means i need a 27 spline t5. Is there a way to identify one of these at the junkyard without ripping the drivetrain apart?

The metal tag held by a tailhousing bolt will have a 1352xxx number.

Some later shifter covers had a decal with the 1352xxx number, but those are interchangeable. I've bought a 1988 box that had a 1986 shifter cover.

Re: identify a t5??

Honestly, if you find a manual thirdgen in the junkyard, pulling the trans will take you maybe 30 minutes if the car is already sitting on blocks/tires/whatever. I pulled a T5 out of an 85 a few weeks ago and it was EASY, much easier than I thought it would be. If it has the 26 (or so) splines, its from a V8, if its only got like 14 (can't remember exactly), its from a V6 originally.

Either way, if its already in the thirdgen, chances are good the torque arm mount is still there, so obviously it should fit in yours.

Probably.
Probably.

Try the gear box or d&d to price the part new. Then look for used.
