383 stroker questions
Does anyone know if the 700R4 trans will hold up with a 383 stroker in a 91 firebird formula?

Re: 383 stroker questions
Wrong section for this type of post.
It depends. If your tranny is in good shape, and you don't abuse it, it'll last.
But if you have drag tires, and like to launch it hard every single time it'll fall apart on you very quickly.
If your tranny has high mileage, consider rebuilding it and adding a good shift kit+ 'Vette servo to it. Might as well shell out the money on your tranny as well, before it gets super expensive.

Re: 383 stroker questions
okay where would i post this then, i just became a member today, i find it kind of confusing to navigate. Anyways the tranny has 113,000 on it and by the time i rebuild the 350 and am ready to drop it in it will have a lot more. its an everyday car as of right now but i hope to buy another vehicle so i can garage this one. It has a shift kit now but ill have the tranny rebuilt and am thinking of putting 3.55s in the rear.

You would post in the "Transmissions and Drivetrain" section.
Are not 3.55 ford gears ? Are you going to a 9" ford rear end?

no im stayin with gm. what would be gm's ratio then instead of 3.55s. 3.42s? also do you know if a stage 1 chip for around $150 from jegs would be beneficial or a waste of money for a 5.0tpi 91 formula?

Re: 383 stroker questions
3.54 is a GM gear.
skip the chip. Just get a custom one made when you drop the new engine in.
Te 700r4 can last as mine has under 400rwhp. No problems yet. I plan on building one for my next 383 when Im looking for 450rwhp and a very broad curve.
Im more afraid of heat as this is a roadrace car so get a trans cooler and be happy

Re: 383 stroker questions
as for the Chip dont get one. Get a custom one for YOUR application. Each engine responds differently so it needs to be custom tailored to your car
