82 4spd Manual question
so I know that 82 F-body came with 2 kinds of 4 speeds, the T-10 and the
Saginaw.
What does the Saginaw shifter look like? could it be mistaken for the T-10 shifter or are they clearly different, OR are they the same shifter?
Saginaw.

Re: 82 4spd Manual question
Depends on what part you are looking at.
The T-10 shift pattern has reverse left and up; the Saggy right and down.
I can't recall what the shifters looked like, stock, well enough to tell you if you had one laying on the table, which one it was.
A Hurst shifter is the same for both. The "install kit", with the brackets and rods and all taht, is CONSIDERABLY different. You can spot the rods quite easily: the T-10 reverse rod is very short (about 6" shorter than the next longest) and goes into the extension housing, the Saggy is longer (about 2-3" shorter than the next longer) and goes into the case right behind the cover.
Only way I know any of that is so that I can scrupulously avoid even getting close to, let alone touching, a Saggy. I would feel polluted for life if that ever happened. I would be forever ruined.
What are you really wanting to know? I.e., let's talk about building the road, not just killing the alligators or even draining the swamp. Start at the beginning.

Re: 82 4spd Manual question
I am talking about the stock SHIFTER are they obviously different, or are they similar enough that they could be mistaken for one another?

Re: 82 4spd Manual question
NEW QUESTION:!:!:
I just found and 82 Firebird in the Junk yard TODAY and it had a borg warner 4 speed in it and it had a totally different shifter than mine, it was bigger and just all around different. so I THOUGHT it was a hurst.
I pulled it out and it doesn't say hurst anywhere on it.
did GM put more than one kind of shifter in these T-10 from the factory?
Did someone else make an aftermarket one, wouldn't there name be on it?
all that is on it is patent numbers

Re: 82 4spd Manual question
don't know how much help this is cm, but my 2nd gen f/b's with t10, had a round lever with the words HURST written verticle on them. didn't know the 3rd gens even came with saginaws. sounds like a good find, no matter what. wish I could find a car like that. about to put a T5 in an 84, would love to have the manual clutch and linkage.
