Detent Cable

Does anybody know were I can get a detent cable for my 85 Z28 vin code H. I have looked at 1A, hawks and 3rd gen ranch and every part store in my area and cant fine one. Mine is streched out and I can seem to adjust it to work right. I have it kinda rigged so I can drive it a little, but I want it right.
Can anybody help?

Re: Detent Cable

Try a place like carquest, not sure if it's available to you down there, but it's like a napa with many parts other chain stores cannot get. That's where my buddy just got his for $20.

TV cable. I found that there is a difference in length and that it is the vin # that makes the difference for example 42 inch or 39 inch. but because mine is streched so bad I am not willing to chance betting the wrong one

Re: Detent Cable

It's whether it's carbed or TPI that makes the difference.

Yes I found that out. I havent found one for a carbed engine. Ibut I think I am getting close. I found a transmission dealer on ebay and just asked if they have or can get one for me. As you can guess I need it now. Mt 1-2 shift is fine and 2-3 seems that it wants a higher rpm than normal and 3-4 seems ok. I just cant afford a tranny rebuild so I need this cable. If anybody knows were I can find one fast let me know. I have cash/paypal.

Any parts store can get you one. They're as common as dirt.

I bought a new detent cable for my 1988 700r4 trans at O'Rellys. I think it was about $15.00.

Orielly's got it overnight for me. 20.00 and a one year warranty
And just in case others need the part number it is:
Pioneer Inc. - Detent (Passing Gear) Cable

Part Number: CA1970

And yes if oriellys doesnt have it in stock they can get it overnight, or you can order it and have it sent to your house.

Re: Detent Cable

Is that cable the same one for a 92 firebird with a 350 and a 700r4 that is carbed?

Re: Detent Cable

I think its the same, but just call a part store that carry's it, and ask them to look it up under carb and TPI. If the part number is the same then you'll know. You can even give them different years, and compare the part numbers.
