2 trannys with the same problem..?

So my camaro with the 350 tpi has had one 700r4 trans that was with the engine that went bad. The trans ended up revving REAL high (past 7000 rpms) before you had to let off the gas so it would shift. So luckily a donor car that had a 305 but a 700r4 trans we swapped it in over the weekend. It worked fine and shifted it felt like when it should of until after I came back from work it started having the same problem but going into 3rd gear. Maybe I'm unlucky and both trans were just old and went bad fast? Any ideas from anyone else on why this is happening because I don't want to waste another trans or waste my money if it's another problem so any suggetions would help!!!!!

We disconnected the kickback to the first trans and it didn't change anything. The second trans as I mentioned ran fine until later today after driving to work and back ( about 30 mins of driving) and it was only maybe the last 5 minutes it started acting up

From what I understand, 700's don't last long if the TV ( throttle valve )
cable isn't correctly working!!

Another thing that's 101 is fluid level-- how is it?

Re: 2 trannys with the same problem..?

the fluid is good, me and my dad checked that after i told him the problem was happening again.
it might be the tv cable i mean the first trans worked fine before we took it out (engine swap 305 to 350) and then we put the same trans that was worked fine before about maybe 1 1/2 months of sitting. put it back in the way we took it out and it acted up the fluid was fine then to. we put brand new fluid in. so my dad talked to a transmission guy and he said the trans was probably the problem so as i said, we swapped it from the donor car and put fresh trans fluid in then to. everything seemed to work fine til the problem arose again. (btw both trans had maybe 140,xxx miles on them but worked fine before) so bad trans or cable not set up properly? or maybe something else?

I had a link in my "favorites" to a site that shows how the TV cable works & how to adjust, but since our cmptr died awhile back, I can't find it!!
I'll see if I can find it 2morrow & get the link, unless someone can direct you to it 2night!!

  1. Push the Detent button on the TV cable near the throttle body and hold it in.
  2. While holding the detent button grab the cable sheath behind the bracket and pull it towards the firewall till it bottoms out. Release the button.
  3. Now, open the throttle body until it is fully open. If the TV cable is not stretched then the TV cable will adjust and get pulled out.

This is the proper adjustment of the TV cable. There is not "alternative" adjustment as some others will tell you. Proper adjustment of the cable is essential to the performance and longevity of the transmission.
