can i make a 9 bolt live behind decent power what can i do i am a poor man and cant afford a after market rearend thanks for any help

 

what are u calling decent power? and do you plan on bolting slicks or drag radials on the car?

 

t/a rear support cover would help. and maybe arp studs.

I ran a solid pinion spacer and shimmed my posi nice and tight. ( fyi when I sold the rear it was still in great shape after setting behind a built 350 and also a camed ls1 6-speed) so if its in good shape to start with im sure with the beefy cover it will take alot! not as much vs a 12 bolt but for a 7.75" gear it takes ALOT of abuse

 

engine builder said to expect about 560 hp and similar tq and i am going to give 100-150 worth of nitrous tires are 26-10.5 sportsman pros it spins through high gear so that will help it live a little longer thanks for the input guys

 

ok now everyones including me are curious as to what your building and the specs on it... we all like to share our experiences... and to be honest with u i dont see a 9 bolt holding that kinda power... but thats just my 2 cents....

 

its a mild bbc 468 cubic inches 10.25 com procomp 320 heads exstensive porting single plane intake extensive porting 850cfm carb comp cam around.600 lift and 250 at .050 duration ijust want to run maybe 11.60 n/a and maybe 10.90 on the bottle i made one pass on the motor let out at about 1100 feet and 1.9 60ft and it went 11.92 at 112 so i think i can accomplish my goals

 

Horsepower is not the killer of rear ends. Clutch dumps on slicks are. Slicks mainly. Street tires will typically just spin & not stress the rear end.

So sure.....A 9-bolt can easily live behind that engine. It is how you drive (or launch) that will determine it.

 

thats why i have not put slicks on it yet
