Pivot Pin

So Im super dumb and did not check the other side of the tranny for the fill plug and I though what turned out to be the pivot pin was the fill plug. I loosened it and tightened it back in and now it wont shift. What do I have to do to fix this problem? Am I going to have to drop the tranny and open up the top of the case to make sure everything is lining up right?

Re: Pivot Pin

Yes, you will have to remove the transmission, remove the shifter, remove the tail housing, remove the cover and put the 5th and reverse shift linkage back together.

Re: Pivot Pin

I wouldnt have to mess with the bell housing to get the tranny off would I? All the other gears work just fine with no grinding. What should I be looking for when I get the cover off? would I have to buy a rebuild kit? What parts would I need to buy? Is putting the 5th and reverse shift linkage back together a hard job?

Re: Pivot Pin

You will probably need the wave-e clip that holds the 5th reverse lever in position. That probably got flattened out. We see this all the time. Don't worry your not the only guy that ever did that. We have plenty of those clips. Let me know Bob

Re: Pivot Pin

Yea, that happens a lot. Borg Warner put a tag on a lot of those transmission warning that it's not the fill plug and not to remove it. The clip is probably all that you will need. No need to remove the bellhousing. There are no gaskets. Pay attention to the reverse thrust bearing when you take the tail housing off so that you get it all back together right. I think Tremec has the complete service manual on thier web sight. It's a PDF download.

Re: Pivot Pin

You guys are awesome! Thanks for all the help! I will probably get started with pulling the tranny tomorrow. Was lookin at it, and it should be a piece of cake. Once I get it pulled, ill update more. Might need one of those clips when I get to it. Hopefully we can work somethin out about gettin one of those clips Bangin Bob. Thanks!!!
