PLEASE HELP! is this my torque converter acting up?
PLEASE HELP! is this my torque converter acting up?
i have a 90 rs 305 with a 700r4.
under acceleration as well as maintaining a speed limit, the car kinda feels like the trans is slipping but it doesnt feel like its slipping out of gear just feels like it loses a little power then catches then loses then catches.
and also i have noticed say if i put it in neutral at a sit still and rev it up, when it hits higher rpm's when reving it kinda starts to move forward a few inches like the trans is engaging or something.
IS THIS THE LOCK UP IM MY TORQUE CONVERTER ACTING UP?
i have read that sometimes the lock up will sort of engage and disengage its self and these are the symptoms you get.
are there any quick fixes? im trying to sell it tomorrow lol.
the trans shifts thru all gears great and smooth shifts as well as overdrive and fluid level is good.
please help
thanks

If it's trying to move in neutral, you have a hydraulic problem.

Assuming the car / trans. are all stock,
Unplug the TCC wiring connector.
Drive it as little as you need to in order to look for a repeat of the loses / catches / loses / catches behaviour.
If that "fixes" it, then it's TCC related.
If not, you may want to do a fluid/filter on the trans. and make sure the filter and it's seal in the pump are in good shape. (old additional seal left behind?)

as far as catching/losing/catch.ect, how fast are you going? or does it happen at all mph and rpm ranges? to help rule out the tcc, the tcc engages at 40mph. (unless its been changed through a prom tune). so if your cruising at that speed or near it within a few mph, it can constantly be engaging and releasing due to speed change. its activated by the ecm, at which the ecm recieves its input from the vss (vehicle speed sensor).
and it wouldnt be a bad idea to do a typical trans service (filter, fluid) and some are against it but i would put a bottle of lucas trans fix in it. iv had good results using it in some **** box cars.
most importantly, check the trans fluid LEVEL lol. and the "correct" way like many people fail to do. its right on the dip stick. idle, hot, in park. simple

ok i had my buddy come take a look at it, he said fluid is not burnt and sounds like what its doin is not getting proper fluid flow due to the filter being clogged, so im gonna try fluid and filter and see if it changes it.
also yes it does it at all speeds and all rpms except idle
