700R4 Problem

I have an '87 700R4 and whats happening is it goes into 1st gear but then revs up high and then I think that it skips 2nd completely. It also doesn't downshift when i go uphill, i have to pull off to the side and put it in park and turn the car off to get it moving again. Can someone please help me??

You know what? Thats a good question. Where should it be for it to be right on? I replaced the transmission awhile a go and just kinda bolted it on, and hoped for the best. The same thing happened with the last transmission I had in it. This is the second one i have put in it.

but "replaced the transmission" with what? Was it a rebuilt unit or an unknown unit namely, a used unit that you yourself had not personally owned or maintained.

Re: 700R4 Problem

well the TV cable adjustment is critical! you can burn up a transmission fast without the proper adjustment. adjust yours properly now and see how it does. if it is not working properly take it to a known transmission shop have them adjust it properly. if still not working you'll need another transmission/rebuilt
