choosing a posi unit, opinions please!

i have my choice between three different gm 12 bolt rear ends to put into my 91 camaro from summit. one choice is an auburn hd with 3.73 gears 33 spline axle or an eaton with 3.08 gears 30 spline axle or a true-trac 3.55 gears 33 spline axle. have any of you guys used these center sections before? the motor is making roughly 400-500 hp at crank with a stock t-5 havent got it dyno'd yet. just curious which holds up better or easier to work with. any comments always helps. thanks

You DO NOT want the Auburn. The Eaton is best for street/strip use. The Truetrac is good for auto cross and road racing. I don't understand what you mean about these being from Summit. Are these new rear ends, like Moser? If they are then you can have it built any way that you want.

Forget about Summit. Get this from a Moser dealer and order it the way you want it. Summit is getting to be as bad as Wal-Mart.

Re: choosing a posi unit, opinions please!

I just got of the phone with Summit Racing and they hooked me up with this part # I think your going to like it. I know I do.Ill have to put it on my wish list.(only in my dreams) = http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MSR-12BHACCBBCXH/
If its not what your looking for than give them a call and tell them what you want.Thats what I did. Says it comes with a aluminum girdle cover. Thats nice.

Re: choosing a posi unit, opinions please!

I havent used the true trac on an f-body, but they always worked well for me on my jeeps, both on and off road. They seemed to be very durable and worked smoothly. while i didnt have them behind 400hp, I did do a lot of burnouts in my street jeep and wheeling and they gave me no problems and looked great when i took them apart.

Re: choosing a posi unit, opinions please!

i would be careful moser does not have a good rep on ls1 tech with the 12bolt the torque arm bolts like to back out.

they have also been known to make a lot of noise. mostly on 6-speed cars.

for the money you can have a fully setup s60 with a drive shaft or a fabricated 9"
