Sticky TV cable lever?

From what I understand, the T cable connects to a hook which is then connected to some sort of lever in the transmission right? What I found is that lever is getting stuck. WE got it loose, then it would get stuck again. We put some seafoam in the tranny to help clean it out, and we are going to change the filter and fluid next weekend. What I want to know is what caused it to get sticky? It isn't ALWAYS sticky, but get's that way if the car sits for at least a few hours. I break it loose by flooring it for a second and it pops it free.

What causes it? Will the fluid change help?

Just because you didn't specify, are you sure the cable itself isn't binding? If the throttle valve lever is sticking it needs to be replaced.

How many miles on the car? If it's over 120,000, and never had a tranny fluid change, I wouldn't do it now - might start slipping with new fluid.

Re: Sticky TV cable lever?

Well I unbolted the tranny end of the tv cable and pulled it out and when I pulled it out, I could feel it break loose inside the tranny. After that, my uncle pulled the cable form the top end and it moved as it should, that's how I know it's not the cable.

AS far as I know, the tranny has over 150k on it.

Why would changing the fluid cause slipping?

Re: Sticky TV cable lever?

Wear on the clutches over time releases particles into the fluid that acts like a friction additive. Changing fluids now poses the possibility that those particles are the only thing keeping enough friction so it doesn't slip. Once that particle filled fluid is gone, and fresh added, sometimes they start to slip.

Tranny fluid/filter should be changed at least every 60,000 miles - you're over double that, so it's a potential risk. Bad part is only way to know is to do it.

Once it's changed, then there's no turning back right? If that does cause it to slip, what happens then? Sounds like this can get expensive fast.

Yep, once it starts slipping, it doesn't stop, so it's the point of no return. At that point, it's rebuild or buy time.

Re: Sticky TV cable lever?

Well, today I got home from school, and it's stuck again. I'm going to have to drop the pan and take a look, but I think it's gumming up. What causes that? If I DO need to replace the lever inside, where can I get one?
