hurst shifter wont engage 1,3,5,R?!
Hey everyone, i swapped a t56 into my car (finally finished the swap today!). i bought a Hurst Billet Plus shifter from summit (P/N HUU-3915061). now the problem i am having is that it wont engage 1,3,5 or R. that is a huge problem. now i know it isnt anything wrong with the tranny because i can engage all of them by hand.
the shifter arm is contacting the shifter assembly so it wont engage. is there anything i can do to fix this, short of buying a new shifter? has anybody else had this problem before?

Same shifter I have.
Mine works PERFECT, and then some.
Sounds almost like you have it in backwards.

i thought that too and i just went outside and tried it again. it sits in perfectly one way, and if you flip it around, theres no war you can bolt that in...
Sofa, if you remember from the install, was your hurst logo on the bottom plate facing so you could read it, or was it upside down?

It looks like the picture of it shows built-in stops.
The instruction manual (downloadable from Summit) has instructions on how to adjust the other stop for 2-4-6. The one for 1-3-5 needs adjusted.

Re: hurst shifter wont engage 1,3,5,R?!
yes i actualy still have the instructions that came with the shifter. there was a new bushing cup that came with the shifter and i noticed today that it said it was for Tremec transmissions. is it possible that this bushing cup is incorrect for the BW t56? it looked the same as the old one (this was months ago and i no longer have the original.)...
the adjustment screws are all of the way out on both ends. the shift lever/handle contacts the forward part of the shifter base.

That cup is correct for your trans.
It is supposed to be installed with some serious industrial adhesive. But a lot of them are just set in.
Please post pics of the handle hitting the base.

Re: hurst shifter wont engage 1,3,5,R?!
ok here are a few pics to help everyone see whats up.
first pic is of the shifter bolted to the trans in neutral:

second pic is of the shifter fuly engaged in 4th gear.

next 2 pics is on the shifter all of the way forward trying to go into 3rd.

so i am at a loss...like i can find the spot to go into all of the gears, but its like there isnt enough travel to fully engage them

The only thing I can think of is a mis-assembly of the cross that presses on the springs (which return it to neutral.) Even then, I don't think it would cause the problem you're seeing. I'd call Hurst.

call Hurst

That doesn't look right at all. Looks like the lever the handle bolts to is too far forward at all times. Like the whole assembly is about ½" forward of where it belongs.

You need to swap the GTO shifter block for the F-body block.

Re: hurst shifter wont engage 1,3,5,R?!
yeah it did come with a GTO shifter.. damn. where can i get one of those f-body blocks? figured since it came out of a thirdgen (from a member of this site none the less), that it would be correct for this application. ahh
link me if possible please!
edit, found this at thegearbox, would this be the correct one?
