yank tci or viligiante converter
hey everyone im getting a new probuilt 700r4 with a stage two transgo shift kit next week.... my probuilt 700r4 had the shitty b&M shift kit and the 3-4 clutch pack is on its way out. anyways my tci street fighter converter is still good.... its a 10 inch 3000 stall... i was wondering should i get a yank or a vilgiante converter...... what do you guys think..... my car is a daily driver but its a forged 355 with a gm hotcam and ported edelbrock/slp tpi...

Re: yank tci or viligiante converter
Most people like the vigilante over tci, bm, etc...
Re: yank tci or viligiante converter
I've got nothing but good things to say about my TCI Street Fighter converter.
While I don't have a direct comparison with a Vigilante or Yank, I have managed a few 1.7/60' times with a 3700 lb car.
That says the converter is working well enough for me.

I think you'll be okay...but question did your old tranmission burn up? because id hate to put a converter in a new tranny with that nasty old burnt fluid in it...

Re: yank tci or viligiante converter
yes my old transmission is still in the car now... no its not burnt up... but the 3-4 pack is slipping and the tranny is shifting wierd.... the fuild still looks brand new.... bright cherry red.....like i said i love that tci converter over the stock corvette stall... i always wanted a 700r4 with a trangso stage 2 shift kit..... b&m shift kit is annoying me and is starting to fail....
Re: yank tci or viligiante converter
I took two converters back to TCI. I returned my Street Fighter (243106) because the lock up clutch suddenly stopped working. I figured I had smoked it from abuse however as it turns out, there was small piece of the o-ring (from the end of the input shaft) that had become lodged in the one of the fluid passages. Other than that, the converter was tip top. My other converter, a Breakaway model, had gone through a couple of transmissions that had burned up the 3-4 clutch packs. In fact, after I had installed the converter in a low mileage used transmission (number three!) which lasted only about 20 minutes, I figured it was time to have converter cut open and serviced.
That one is currently sitting on a shelf in my shop, still in the TCI shipping box.
I ordered the Trans Go kit from Pro Built and it has been performing as expected. That's along with all the other typical 700R4 upgrades. (.500" boost valve, .296 intermediate/reverse boost valve, Corvette servo, etc).
I'm not a hard core drag racer by other peoples standards. Maybe 50 passes at the track in a season and another 200-300 tests on the quiet back roads. Seems to work ok so far.
