drag racing, axles
I was just wondering if my 88 Camaro 2.8L 700R4, it is all stock, the engine and tranny were just rebuilt. I was wondering if my stock axles will handle a burnouts at the dragstrip or should i just drive around the waterbox. im trying dragracing, always have been a fan, havent really tried a burnout on the street just squeeled them pulling out but no brake stand or anything. and any mods i could do to help, im swapping fluid to synthetic and was wondering if 3.73 gears would help and not really hinder MPGs because it is driven just about literally every every nice day. and possibly some sort of posi. any help will be considered, thanks guys.

Re: drag racing, axles
i really doubt the axle will have any issues at all, unless you have wheel hop.

Re: drag racing, axles
Your 88 will have 26 spline axles. A better upgrade is to use aftermarket 28 spline axles but that will mean also changing the posi. You can do all kinds of improvment to beef up the 10 bolt but you'll still have those tiny ring and pinion teeth and they will fail before an axles usually will.

Re: drag racing, axles
Doubt you'll break anything with a 2.8
If your not running slicks or drag radials, then theres really no reason to even do a burnout. I would just go around the water box. If for some reason you have to go through it, I just floor it for a split second. Just enough to get the water off the tires.
Dont take this as an insult, but rather an honest question. Can you spin the tire(s) now?
