Since you are willing to consider a used Craigslist part ...
You should check with local tranny shops and inquire about a used 700R4. Not any franchise or chain shop, but a local Joe Blow kinda place. They should have contact info for getting used 700R4's pretty cheap. I know around here, I can snag a used one for about $300 and that includes a 90 day warranty.

Any 700 from around your yr/earlier should work with tail swap but is yours electric which would be 4l60e then it would be your yr/newer the vett trany is the same plus upgrades and there x member bolt holes i beleive are on there tail so it would involve relocateing you x member back some
Oops like the guy belowe said forgot about torque arm

You'll need a 3rd gen tranny, because of the torque arm mount, or swap the rear section from your stock tranny onto the truck tranny.
Or get a torque arm relocation crossmember, then you can drop in a truck 700R4, no problem.
Going that way may prove to be cheaper in the long run, for future tranny issues, since it opens up your availability of transmissions to buy.

If you swap the tailshaft housing, you can use any 700R4 from any 2wd truck or any car that isn't a Corvette.

Any 700R4 besides corvette will work if you are willing to swap the tailshaft housing. Its only 4 bolts and doesn't take long at all. I would also recommend installing a new rear seal while its out. Very easy and will save you a heartache later. Also if you can get one between 88 and 93. They have improvements to help with durability.

Why would you have to cut the driveshaft?

Not all the Corvette 700s have the mounting holes drilled and tapped where you'll need them. The output shaft is also a different length, but not by a lot.

You can use the truck one but your dust cover for the torque converter may not fit. Just make sure that you get a two wheel drive one that way you won't have to tear the trans apart and change your output shaft. The case on the truck one is a little thicker so that middle bolt on the drivers side of the bell housing may be a little tougher to get to. Just do as the other guys said to change the tail shaft housing. 4 bolts easy to do.
The corvette output shaft is .900" shorter than a stock 700. Good luck hope you get back on the road.

Just be carefull of the 450 dollar rebuild. I know that you are trying to save money and I understand but you could have it out a few times. Parts for a good street strip build is around 600 not including torque converter. I would talk to Edge Racing Converters to spec out a converter. If you are staying with the stock engine for now the stock converter will do the job just fine.
