89 T/A 700R4 wont shift into 4th

89 T/A 700R4 wont shift into 4th

My buddys 89 Gta started actting up today and wont shift into 4th gear is the trans about done or? it say 92K on the spedo but looks like 192K underneath

probably. you can try adjusting the tv cable. but notorious for losing Overdrive...check the fluid does it look brown and have a burnt smell to it?

If it is simply not shifting into 4th and just staying in third, a trick you can try it running the car on STURDY jackstands and running the tires up pretty fast in third and have someone under the hood quickly pull the tv cable in and out. Sometimes the valvebody will get some debris where it shouldn't be and stick a shift valve. Try this after confirming tranny fluid level, and that you aren't confusing not shifting to 4th as no converter lockup in 4th.
