hello to all,i have a 1987 iroc z with lb9 5 speed g92.my trans was leaking oil in between the trans and the bellhousing.i removed the trans to fix the leak and decided to go ahead and replace the clutch while i had the trans out.after looking at the old clutch i noticed it was a 14 spline shaft.i was searching for a new clutch and they where all 26 spline.as for as i know my car is all original,could it have come with a 14 spline borg warner trans???what clutch do i use???

 

Sounds like somebody has already applied the 6-cyl hack to your car.

What a bummer. I might commit some form of bodily mayhem if I had paid G92 IROC money and discovered I had got .... that ..... instead. Somebody has seriously sodomized your car.

Either find a V8 transmission and use a V8 clutch; or, use the clutch from a 6-cyl Astro van. Which SUX because it will keep the ridiculously wide ratios of that 6-cyl garbage transmission. If it was me, I'd be scouring the earth for the right trans, rather than figuring out which clutch will preserve the cheeeeeeep-out PO hack.

 

What year did they change to the pull type clutch? ( I am converting to a t56, but wantnto retain the conventional style clutch.)

dang,what a buzz kill.what do you mean by 6 cyl hack??i know the car has the correct engine from the vin number.do you mean that the original trans blew up and instead of fixing it they stuck a 6 cyl trans in it.

And one of the benefits of G92 was the ratios in the transmission, which you paid for and didn't get. You SHOULD HAVE got a .73 5th but instead you have AT BEST a .63.

Yeah since the Astro is basically just a S truck with a big box on the back, if the S truck came with a 4.3 (I haven't the foggiest clue about that, it's all 6-cyl stuff which I avoid every possible atom of) it should be the same clutch.

 

hey mr sofa r u out there!need alittle tranny help.ok so im gonna take your advice and junk the v6 tranny(actually put on craigslist).i found a guy selling a wct5 out of a 91 z28 in tennesse.he wants $385 which sounds resonable.anyway it has the electronic speedo,i read a post somewhere where you said i could just pull the electric piece out and slide in the cable style and it should work.any info would help.thanks

 

Yup, that is true; at worst, you might have to change the drive gear also, if it's not the right one. But in any case if your speedo is correct now, you can transfer whichever of those parts you need to, right over to the other.
