Re: Anyone here switch to synthetic tranny fluid?
how many miles and when was the fluid/filter last changed?
rule of thumb on those 700s is if its been beyond 75,000 miles with no change.
more then likley a whole change now will just losen gunk and plug it up.
I use royal purple racing syn ATF in my built Th350 and would use redline syn if I had to do it again.
and only cause RP is tinted so light, you can barley read the level right.
redline is nice dark red and easy to see.

Re: Anyone here switch to synthetic tranny fluid?
I built mine about 2000 miles ago in 2009 and, well, i've used the regular stuff too.. No problems and it's one healthy tranny
I would consider switching to Royal Purple Synthetic (I have that in my engine) but I was told not too by the builder.. Who knows why but I will listen to the man.. Maybe has something to do with gaskets or parts that aren't compatible with synthetic fluids! Who knows.

I probably wouldn't bother but when ya spend a good chunk of change on a new trans, skimpin on fluid doesn't seem right.
brand doens't matter much when it comes to full syn, id chose redline just cause you can see it easy. RP is clear n hard to read on the stick.

I agree.. RP oil is ridiculously invisible.. I find myself double or sometimes triple checking the oil because it's hard to see! lol

Re: Anyone here switch to synthetic tranny fluid?
Just switched to Mobil 1 syn in my 700. Just got it completly redone. My trans builder had this advise for me(he runs amsoil syn in his 7sec camaro). More of a street car which mine is sees more constant heat and the syn with help alot in that area and if the trans is set up correctly the syn should have no effect on clutches or the band but only will improve the performance and life of the trans. Mine shifs great and acts just fine cruising around or on the mat. He also mentioned that most syn trans fluid is 20W oil and dont use the new Dextron IV which is only a partial syn and is very thin (5W-10W).

I use Dextron VI. No issues since the rebuild in 07.

Re: Anyone here switch to synthetic tranny fluid?
Course the use of the trans would be helpful, many years on a rebuild but if you drive like grandma don't really count
My TH350 is built with the hard shift kit, extra clutch plate, 3.08 1st. and its in a car twice as heavy as a 3rd gen and will chirp em at part throttle shifts, WOT shifts are exciting as you get air in the seat and feel weight less as the car lurches out from under you. [kicks like a muel]
Why RP racing syn
Though hard core Dino+ZDDP for the engine.
