when do i need to replace my ujoint?

when i did my engine swap a few months ago i remember noticing my ujoint was stiff and needed greased. well i was eyeballing prices for a new one and they arent that bad but how do i know when i need to replace this current one? are there any signs of them going bad or?

if you grab the drive shaft and yank/shake it and there is ANY play in the u-joints replace them. also, if they stick, turn irregularly, don't turn smoothly replace them.

and they are cheap enough to do. but sometimes if you have the stock old ones in there they can be a pain in the butt to. almost recomend going to a driveline shop. tell them you want some good spicer joints and get the driveshaft balanced at the same time. shouldnt be more than 100-120 bucks.

thats sounds ok but i dont know where a driveline shop around here is at and that price is too high for a 16 year old who doesnt have a job yet lol. the only thing i really wanna spend that much on now is my exhaust and the new ujoint from zone is only $16 and its one of them you never have to service
