Suppossive posi?

So i bought this a while ago its an 86 irocz which i was told had a posi rear today when i did a burnout only one spun instead of both like a posi should and cant remember if when i first bought it if both did or not could there be something wrong with the rear end or is this just not a posi at all?

NON-posi. Called an "open" differential.



10-bolt Posi carrier.



9-bolt Posi carrier


If you see anything that has a bunch of crap inside a mostly enclosed container in there, it's a posi. If you see something that's just a bunch of gears, like the first pic, it's NOT a posi.

You can always take a pic and post it here.

Never seen a left wheel only burnout. thought the right was usually the one that fried.

Thts why im a little confused as you can see at about 55 seconds into the video the right wants to spin but stops

Before you drop the differential cover be sure to have the new fluid standing by (with posi limited slip additive in case you need it.)Dropping the cover and changing the fluid and gasket is not rocket science by any means but Ive found that having at least a "Chilton's Repair Manual" around is very helpful and really a necessity when working on a car. There about $25.00 at any auto parts store if you don't have one already.
