need help identifying trans wires...700r4

Im about to do my 383 swap and i need some help lol. I already have my trans locked out (for overdrive) but the thing is i have one last wire going to my trans that i have no clue what its for and if i pull it im affraid something may f#@k up. Im deleting all my old harness along with the computer and guages and starting from scratch, hot rod style for a clean look and simple to work on. This connectore is white, square and has 4 round plug openings. The speedo is mechanical hookup(1989) so i know it cant be for that. Please help guys.

Ok, Plug should be marked with very small letters A=top left, B=top right, C=bottom right, D=bottom left.
A=12Volts feed from brake or toggle switch,........................................... ........
B=4th gear switch ground to ECM- Computer Cars, ..................................
C=3rd gear switch ground to ECM- Computer Cars, ...................................
D=Computer feed ground to activate Lockup............................................
A=Purple usually........................................... ......................................
B=Light Blue usually........................................... .................................
C=Dk Green/White usually........................................... .........................
D=Tan/Black usually........................................... ................................
Some Trans have 1, 2, 3 or 4 wires depends on model, computerzied or no Com.

What does that mean?

One of the things that makes cars easier to work on is when they do have factory wiring. I can have the dumbest thing happen and troubleshoot it with a factory service manual step-by-step, even if I didn't have a clue electrically-speaking.

Do you really want to have to troubleshoot your car after wiring things? Look at the thousands upon thousands of threads here. Know why people can troubleshoot other's cars over the internet? Because they are similar.

Consider educating yourself on how your car works instead of putting it one step closer to "no one wants to work on it."

You'll see from the following thread that "removing wiring" eliminated an easy way for him to lock up the converter using existing wiring and made for more time to troubleshoot. If everything were stock, he'd have been able to fix it quicker.

Sorry to bitch and moan. But the articles on Chezoom built by Boyd back in the day had an impression on me. A '57 Chevy that can be easily fixed at any dealer nationwide as a '93 Vette. As opposed to "who in the hell wired this mess?" Which do you want your car to be?

Re: need help identifying trans wires...700r4

Actualy i am vary educated on how my car works seeing that i just pulled and re installed my whole harness in my engine bay. I work at a body shop for a living and have had a college education in my field. I think 5 wires in the engine bay would look better and easier to hide than 30 wires. And if i wire it myself i know its done right and how its all ran. I mean come on the car is 22 years old almost. The wiring has been hacked by so many past owners ,not knowing what they where doing, that when something electrical goes wrong who knows what it could be from. I have had the car for 6 years and know it in and out. I myself have just decided to redo the whole car and this is my choice so please keep your opinions to yourself. All i needed to know was what this connector went to so thank you tunedperformanc.

Oh and jmd... since im carbing my engine i wont have a computer telling my transmission when to enguage into 4th ,since its electronicaly controlled, so you have to do what is called lock out. otherwise you wont have 4th. I got lucky that my transmission shop did this for me already when i had my 700r4 rebuilt a year ago.
