Do NOT get a Spohn crossmember. Leaves you ZERO room for any kind of exhaust.

I have a Spohn and your right there is not much room for exhaust. If we can't get the Skulte anymore is there anyone else who make one like this. This would be great for long tube headers.

Factory exhaust will fit, but even worse is lack of ground clearance.... I switched the spohn mount out for an SPD mount like above^^^^

Yeah.... bad choice of words on my part.

I guess what I really meant is "Doesn't leave any room for any kind of REAL exhaust", but even that's just habit. I got nothing against shorties, long tubes are really only marginally better.

But still a lot of guys love to put these ridiculous dual exhaust systems on these cars and try to run them around that spohn contraption... but it just doesn't work. If you have a T56 you can fab up a really awesome crossmember with the extra room and you actually can run a dual exhaust system with decent ground clearance. And to me even though the benefits of long tubes are there, they're not drastic, having a T56 gives you an oppurtunity to completely mitigate the ground clearance penalty of long tubes.

Re: Post pics of any t56 conversions you have done

I'm setup with the Spohn crossmember for the time being. I don't see any issues with the exhaust yet. But since I was planning on doing something similar to ******* dual setup ( http://members.optushome.com.au/iroc...st/exhaust.htm ) and he did it with an automatic I don't foresee any problems. Worse comes to worse I'll just swap out the trans crossmember with the Hawks unit. My shifter is much lower in the console, likely because I used a short stick, and also mine might be a lil further forward, but since I don't have a motor in it yet, I'm not worried about that yet.

It's my personal opinion that dual pipes themselves offer no benefits. They are merely a necessity for running long tubes in many cases, and the LT's offer the benefits. Running dual pipes along the stock location doesn't really gain you much unless you run large pipes. If you're running dual 2 inch or 2.25 inch pipes along the stock location, you'd be better off making a single 3.5 inch pipe to fit the same space. The extra bends and friction involved with more surface area hurt flow. If you're following the stock routing there's not much point in going duals in my opinion. But that's just my opinion. he even merges to a single 3.5 and then back to duals. Why? If 3.5 is enough for the flow (and it is), and it's easier to route.... why bother with two pipes out the back? And it's still shorties, which like I mentioned are more than adequate for 95 percent of cars, but you'll still get a little more power under the curve in the lower RPM's with long tubes.

Also, this is a really neat setup I found, and that's a T56 too if Im not mistaken!

Still I think he'd be better off with a single 3.5 too. The only drawback to 3.5's is muffler options.

I know a guy running a 406 who did a single 3 from the Y to a catback or something, this car has 477HP at the flywheel I believe. I'm not sure whether I'll go with a single 3 or a dual 2.5 with the 383 I'll build. Both can be done, but it might come down to cost and whether I can keep it up off the ground. I'll have to talk to the muffler shop when I get that far. I'm not keen on cutting the subframe rail though hence liking Willie's bec it follows the factory layout. Now I'm done hijacking here lol. But I am open to opinions and options. I will def do the 94 Z28 tips. They seem to go so well with the third gen.
