Will 6 speed Hydra-Matic 6L80 fit?
Just out of curiosity, because i've seen some of these go on EBAY with a LS3 from the new SS camaros.. Does a Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed automatic transmission fit directly into third gens, physically I mean.. Has it ever been tried? I know it would be longer than my 700R4, but I could always get a shorter driveshaft... Just curious!

the 6l80 will not fit without modifying the trans tunnel, its bigger than the 4l80e and those just barely fit for some. then you have to deal with the torque arm issue (not too hard, just have to get something crossmember mounted). then there's the custom crossmember you need, nothing direct swap for 3rd gens. THEN you have the TCM to deal with, nothing stand alone I know of yet.
TCI does make a 6-speed setup that may work (apparently they use a 4l80e case or similar?), but they're around $8500-9000......
