To change the fluid out or leave it age old question 700r4
So after purchasing my iroc I have found it has dirty brown slightly burned fluid in the 700r. I am torn-the pan on the outside looks real clean but I am afraid it has never been opened up on a car that is around 100k. I have heard the horror stories of changing out the fluid. It shifts ok right now no slipping that I am aware of, but the fixer in me says change it all out. What's been your experiences?

If the fluid is brown, the trans is smoked. Whether you "notice" it or not, it's slipping, or has been, some time or other. Or, overlapping too much. Either way, it is not long for the world.
Doesn't matter whether you change it now or later; you're looking at some trans work in the immediate future.
Might as well save it for after you fix it, so you won't just burn another fill of fluid up too.

Changed fluid and filter today....ugly colored fluid and some clutch dust in pan but I have seen much worse...certainly no metal though. I am thinking the fluid might have looked bad because the car did sit for awhile before I got it. I put a drain plug in the pan so I will run it a bit and then dump some more out till its blood red again

Glad everything looked good. Every change will cut it in half so 2 changed will give you 3/4 new fluid. Are you running Dexron 3 or 6? I am working on getting my stuff swapped over to 6.
